Our Health Screening Philosophy
At Griffinwood, we believe responsible breeding requires more than a single genetic test. Our planned approach combines genetic screening, veterinary evaluations, and careful consideration of each cat's overall health, structure, and pedigree.
Genetic Screening
Our breeding program will incorporate DNA screening for relevant inherited conditions, including HCM-associated variants, SMA, and PK deficiency. Genetic results will be considered alongside pedigree information and veterinary findings—not as a substitute for clinical screening.
Cardiac & Orthopedic Health
We plan to incorporate cardiac echocardiograms and appropriate hip and patellar evaluations into our breeding-cat screening protocols. These assessments help inform breeding decisions and identify concerns that DNA testing alone cannot detect.
Preventive Veterinary Care
Routine examinations, individualized vaccination plans, parasite prevention, reproductive care, and appropriate infectious disease screening will be important components of our program. Our goal is to support the health of breeding cats and kittens throughout every stage of life.
