Where Knowledge Meets Compassion
Thoughtful beginnings. Extraordinary companions.
Griffinwood Maine Coons began with a simple belief: raising exceptional cats requires more than beautiful pedigrees. It requires knowledge, intention, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to their well-being.
With more than 20 years of experience in veterinary medicine and a professional background in clinical research, I bring a unique perspective to responsible breeding—one grounded in animal health, scientific understanding, and lifelong learning.
Griffinwood is being thoughtfully developed as a small, home-based Maine Coon breeding program in Louisiana, with an emphasis on health, sound structure, temperament, and purposeful early socialization.
My vision is to raise more than extraordinary Maine Coons. It's to nurture confident, well-adjusted companions and create meaningful, lasting relationships with the families who welcome them home.

For me, animals have never simply been a part of life. They've helped shape the person I am today.
After more than two decades working in veterinary medicine, I've witnessed firsthand the extraordinary relationships between animals and the people who love them. Those experiences have shaped my belief that responsible breeding extends far beyond appearance or pedigree. It's about health, temperament, quality of life, and the responsibility we carry for every animal entrusted to our care.
Griffinwood is an extension of those values—a dream built with patience, curiosity, and a commitment to doing things thoughtfully rather than quickly.
As this program develops, my hope is to create something lasting: a small, carefully managed cattery where every breeding decision has purpose, every kitten is treated as an individual, and every family feels supported long after their companion comes home.

A Little About Lauren
Hi! I’m Lauren, the founder of Griffinwood Maine Coons, a lifelong animal lover, former veterinary technician, and clinical research professional with more than two decades of experience in veterinary medicine.
For as long as I can remember, animals have been at the center of my world. My years in veterinary medicine taught me the importance of compassionate care, preventive health, and understanding each animal as an individual.
My academic background has further shaped the way I approach animal health and responsible breeding. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Psychology, a Master of Science in Structural and Cellular Anatomy, and a Master of Public Health. My studies included genetics, microbiology, comparative anatomy, pathology, and cellular biology, giving me a deep appreciation for the complex relationship between genetics, health, and development.
Today, my work in clinical research continues to strengthen my commitment to evidence-based practices, thoughtful decision-making, and the importance of continually learning as science evolves.
Griffinwood is where those experiences meet a lifelong dream: raising extraordinary Maine Coons with intention, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to their well-being.
Of course, no dream like this happens entirely alone. My husband, Sean, is my biggest behind-the-scenes supporter. While his passions lean more toward the New Orleans Saints and all things sports, he's graciously embraced a future that may involve considerably more cat hair than he originally anticipated.
And then there's Hazel, my heart dog, who has never needed a pedigree to prove just how extraordinary the bond between a person and an animal can be.
Oh, Hazel…
Chief Happiness Officer & Unofficial Griffinwood Supervisor
Hazel is my heart dog, constant companion, and resident expert in making herself the center of attention.
Although she isn't a Maine Coon (a minor technicality, according to Hazel), she's an essential part of the Griffinwood family.
Her responsibilities include supervising daily operations, providing moral support, and ensuring that no one forgets who was here before the cats.
More importantly, Hazel reminds me every day why I believe so deeply in the relationships we share with animals. Every pet has a personality, a story, and a special way of finding their place in our hearts.
Hazel's official position: Senior Management, Kitten Socialization Specialist & Supreme Cat Cuddler. Tenure: Indefinite.
Our Promise
Health With Intention
We believe responsible breeding begins with informed decisions. Our commitment is to prioritize comprehensive health screening, sound structure, genetic diversity, and the long-term well-being of every cat in our care.
Raised With Care
We believe a kitten's earliest experiences help shape the companion they become. Our approach will emphasize purposeful socialization, gentle handling, enriching experiences, and careful attention to each kitten's developing personality and individual needs.
A Lifelong Connection
Our commitment doesn't end when a kitten goes home. We hope to build lasting relationships with Griffinwood families through honest communication, thoughtful guidance, and ongoing support throughout each cat's life.
The Journey Begins Here…
Griffinwood is more than a dream of raising extraordinary Maine Coons. It's a commitment to thoughtful beginnings, meaningful connections, and the families who will become part of our story.
We invite you to follow along as Griffinwood grows. We'd love to share the journey with you.
